Installing a SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap in Glass

To install a SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap in a window, you will need our mounting adaptors. There are two mounting adaptors in the box, one for inside the house and one for outside. The microchip cat flap is supplied with three different lengths of screw to accommodate a range of window thicknesses from 3mm to 60mm.

If you don’t have a hole in your window already you need to ask a qualified glazier to supply you with a new window with a hole in the correct location. If you are replacing a double glazed unit, the glazier must use a non-metallic spacer bar around the hole for the cat flap. This is important as using a metal spacer around the hole will reduce SureFlap’s read range.

The required hole size is 212mm in diameter but the mounting adaptor is suitable for hole sizes up to 260mm in diameter. Apply a bead of sealant to each of the mounting adaptors. We are now ready to install the cat flap in the window.

Put one of the adaptors of the tunnel with the sealant facing you. From the inside of the house put the tunnel through the hole and push firmly up to the glass to compress the sealant.

From the outside of the house take the second adaptor and slide it over the tunnel with the sealant facing the window. Then slide the external frame over the tunnel and use the appropriate length of screw to hold the cat flap in place. For a standard double glazed unit this is the medium length of screw and for a single glazed unit it is the shortest screw.

Use a spirit level to ensure the cat flap is level before you tighten the screws. Be careful not to over-tighten the screws by using a handheld screwdriver.

Once you are happy that the cat flap is held firmly in position, you can insert the two plastic screw caps.

If you have already programmed your cats into memory, SureFlap is now ready for your cats to use.

The mounting adaptor box contains two identical adaptors; one is for use inside the house and one for outside. The adaptors are bonded to the window with an all weather silicon sealant and held firmly in place by the mounting screws. Apply a bead of sealant to each of the mounting adaptors as we are showing on one of them here.
